Paris, France.November 15, 2007..International trains at Gare Du Nord are rare on a nationwide day of strikes. Travelers stand near large heaters and check the board frequently for trains that may or may not be departing. Many tracks remain empty as only 150 of the usual 700 TGV high-speed trains were running. French unions launch an open-ended strike in public transport (SNCF, RATP, ...), power utilities, education, and hospitals, in a major test for President Nicolas Sarkozy's reform plans. They are protesting against the scrapping of pension privileges that allow some public employees to retire as early as age 50...
