Employees inside Sunfest Organic Herbs, a multi-million dollar state-of-the-art herb farm opened in 2012, pack plastic clamshells with herbs for shipping. Workers in this plant wear protective clothing and eye and hand protection, and the herbs are cleaned with ultraviolet light in a vacuum-sealed room.
The farm is 65 acres, with 7 of the acres inside automated greenhouses controlled via an onsite weather station that open and close as necessary. The organic herbs are sold wholesale to Whole Foods Market, Publix, Wal-Mart and others.
Farmer Joe Falco, formerly of HerbThyme in California, designed the operation that is backed by investor Cliff Rosen.
