Kiev, Ukraine.December 26, 2004..Supporters of the opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko rally to his support as the second round of election polls show him in a strong lead just hours after the polling stations are closed.  ..The first round of voting was considered fraudulent when the ruling president Viktor Yahukovich won and the opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko lost. ..Several hundred thousand Ukrainians took to the streets of Kiev and held daily rallies on Maidan Independence Square. The protests lasted nearly a month before the first vote was declared invalid and a new round of elections held on December 26, 2004. ..The demonstrations would come to be known as the "Orange Revolution" after the color of the opposition party.
