The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) continues to operate one of the oldest oil fields near Baku ... the Bibi-Heybat Oil Field (BHOF). It produces small amounts of oil for domestic use. Located at the coast of the Caspian Sea it is a source of pollution as a result of well water and oil spill discharge into the Baku Bay. British Petroleum constructs a massive and modern off-shore platform just near by.
