Owners of Zuccotti Park delayed a cleanup scheduled for Friday morning, averting a feared showdown between the police and the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators.
Protesters, who have been occupying the park for three weeks, performed an intense clean up in the park as some held firm to stay while others appeared to be ready to move out.
When the postponement was announced at 7AM the crowd surged and small bands marched towards Wall Street where the police arrested several in the crowd and the financial district became chaotic...The participants of the event, that began on September 17, are mainly protesting against social and economic inequality, corporate greed, and the influence of corporate money and lobbyists on government, among other concerns.
