New Orleans, Louisianna.USA.December 1, 2005 ..Hurricane Katrina damage and recovery. Residents of the lower ninth ward return to their homes for the first time. Marenthia LaGarde 58 years old returns to the home that was built in 1950..Her house is at the exact point where the levee broke in New Orleans' lower 9th district. ..She was born and raised in this house and lived with her son and 3 children before the hurricane and flood took it away. Her grandparents built the house in 1950. ..The broken levee is just in front of her and the barge that came through the levee and destroyed her home is just behind her. She places a sign on the mound that was once her home that was something her 6 year old grand son said days after the flood hit that raised the spirits of her entire family.
