The entrance to Wilbur Wright Public School that closed in 2005. It is one of many public schools abandoned in Detroit proper. These modern-day ruins were created by wave after wave of lay-offs and corporate collapses of the Detroit auto industry.
Known as the world's automotive center Detroit was once the home of 1.85 million people in the 1950's. It now houses 917,000 and for this reason it is said that there are now 80,000 abandoned buildings within the city.
