Kiev, Ukraine.December 27, 2004..The political partner of opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko, Yulia Timoshenko greets people on Maidan Independence Square after a rally where thousands of Orange flag waving supporters rally to their side. ..Election polls show him as a clear winner however he has not yet been declared the winner nor has his opponent refuses to admit defeat...The first round of voting was considered fraudulent when the ruling president Viktor Yahukovich won and the opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko lost. ..Several hundred thousand Ukrainians took to the streets of Kiev and held daily rallies on Maidan Independence Square. The protests lasted nearly a month before the first vote was declared invalid and a new round of elections held on December 26, 2004. ..The demonstrations would come to be known as the "Orange Revolution" after the color of the opposition party.
