Taking the water taxi to meetings in Bebek, Alphan Manas is a technology and innovation expert, is chairman of Brightwell Holdings and a founder of and investor in many companies. Previously, he was a partner in Teknoloji Holding. He has invested heavily in energy and IT businesses, adding value and enabling their sale to strategic partners. Mr. Manas has worked on projects for developing countries, in conjunction with a range of institutions and university technology transfer centers in Turkey and the US. He is a board member of the Institute of Ecolonomics, a US-based non-profit organisation that promotes economic sustainability of rural areas by assisting local production and supply of energy, food, housing and other resources. He was chairman of the World Future Society and founded the Turkish Futurists Association, of which he is honorary chairman. He is also a founding member of the Turkish Business and Sustainable Development Association. He graduated in textile and apparel engineering from the University of the Aegean, Greece, and subsequently gained a master's degree in production management from the State University of New York.
