At Detroit's Saturday Eastern Market fresh food from farms in southeastern Michigan come to sell their produce. William Gardner, who has his own urban farm in Detroit proper with his wife Kelly, sells fresh food at the Grown-in-Detroit food stand. Grown-in-Detroit is a partnership with over 185 organizations and hundreds of individuals that support urban gardening and farming initiatives in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park.
Urban gardening has taken Detroit by storm with so many vacant lots available after thousands of homes have been foreclosed, abandoned and demolished many residents and neighborhoods have turned those plots in to productive land.
