Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band perform during "The River Tour" at Rosemont Horizon near Chicago.
The band includes front man - lead singer and song writer Bruce Springsteen "The Boss", guitarist and vocals Steven Van Zandt, drummer Max Weinberg, bassist Garry Tallent, Roy Bittan on keyboards and Clarence Clemons on saxophone.
The E Street Band was founded in October 1972, but it wasn't formally named until September 1974. Springsteen has put together other backing bands during his career, but the E Street Band has been together more or less continuously for the past four decades.
Springsteen is widely known for his brand of Heartland rock, poetic lyrics, and Americana sentiments centered on his native New Jersey.
Springsteen's recordings have included both commercially accessible rock albums and more sombre folk-oriented works. His most successful studio albums, Born to Run and Born in the U.S.A., showcase a talent for finding grandeur in the struggles of daily American life; he has sold more than 65 million albums in the United States and 120 million worldwide and he has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award.
