Kiev, Ukraine.December 26, 2004..Ukrainians vote in central Kiev during a second round of voting. ..The first vote was considered fraudulent when the ruling president Viktor Yahukovich won and the opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko lost. ..Several hundred thousand Ukrainians took to the streets of Kiev and held daily rallies on Maidan Independence Square. The protests lasted nearly a month before the first vote was declared invalid and a new round of elections held on December 26, 2004. ..The demonstrations became known as the Orange revolution after the color of the opposition party.
