From a schoolhouse, a Polish professional soldier (center) and an Abkhazian commander run towards the Parliament hoping to place an Abkhazian flag atop. Hundreds of Abkhazian separatists open fire on Georgian forces held up inside. They do not succeed and are repulsed back into the schoolhouse. Within hours the Abkhazian separatists control the Parliament building and the city --sending thousands fleeing southward into the mountains as refugees.
